Ophelia Expected To Spare The Bahamas

Although Tropical Storm Ophelia intensified overnight, National Hurricane Center specialists say the storm is expected to weaken through the day.

As of 8 a.m., hurricane center specialists had not updated Ophelia’s position. It was still about 1,020 miles east to southeast of the Leeward Islands, and moving in a westerly direction at about 14 mph while packing winds of about 65 mph.

The storm’s path continues to steer clear of Florida, bringing it east of the Bahamas around Tuesday morning, specialists said.

Ophelia is not expected to develop into a hurricane within the five-day forecast, specialists said.
