Emera Inc.’s Caribbean subsidiary is under fire for overcharging electricity users on Grand Bahama Island, even as the company has reportedly given back millions of dollars to large industrial users.
A Bahamian newspaper, the Tribune, reported Friday that the Grand Bahama Power Co. had reimbursed several major business and industrial users “in excess of $5.5 million” for overbilling them for “at least seven years.”
In an open letter to Sarah MacDonald, the president and chief executive of Grand Bahama Power, lawyer Gregory Moss said Polymers International, the Bahama Rock mining firm, the Pelican Bay resort and the Grand Bahama Shipyard were among the commercial clients being reimbursed.
