Like warm breezes, swaying palm trees and gentle waves lapping onto the shoreline, a kindly gentleman named Cecil has been a fixture on Castaway Cay since Disney Cruise Line introduced its private Bahamian island getaway way back in 1998.
In many ways, he’s the face of the idyllic retreat, greeting the day’s guests with a big smile and his gracious, friendly demeanor.
Cecil is Bahamian by birth with a recognizable accent, and he’s tall in stature, with large hands that seem to swallow up your own hand as you shake and wish him good morning.
He’s a perfect representative of both Disney and the Bahamas. Cecil’s duties on Castaway Cay are simple, but they go a long way in ensuring that guests have an enjoyable day.
Early in the morning after either the Disney Magic or the Disney Dream is secured to the dock, you can find Cecil — dressed in a colorful flowered short and white ball cap — at the island’s first tram stop, Kargo Handling Tram Stop, greeting literally thousands of guests after they’ve disembarked from their ship.
