A magistrate jailed an alleged drug lord for three years on charges stemming from a major marijuana and weapons seizure in 2008.
Melvin Maycock Sr., 45, was convicted for having 1,200 pounds of marijuana with intent to supply and possession of three firearms and assorted ammunition of various calibers.
The drugs have a wholesale street value of $1.2 million.
Officers from the Drug Enforcement Unit found the contraband when they raided a villa on Marine Drive, off West Bay Street, on May 17, 2008.
The residence was unoccupied when officers carried out the search in the presence of the landlord.
However, police lifted Maycock’s fingerprint off one of the drug-filled packages, the court heard. Despite this forensic evidence, Maycock maintained that he had never been in the building.
According to Maycock, he was in his hometown of Duncan Town, Ragged Island, when the seizure was made.
