Culture Minister Charles Maynard has been named as the minister responsible for the downtown straw market.
Mr Maynard will receive his appointment today under the provisions of the Straw Market Authority Act, Prime Minister Hubert Ingraham announced last night.
The Bill, among other related regulations, was passed by the legislature last month and provides for a Straw Market Authority Board to oversee the management and day-to-day operation of the straw market. Hubert Chipman, a chartered accountant, was named chairman of the board last week.
