The Prime Minister today advised that His Excellency Sir Arthur Foulkes. Governor-General, transmitted to him the Report of the Constituencies Commission received from the Speaker of the House of Assembly in his capacity as Chairman of the Constituencies Commission.
In accordance with Article 70 of the Constitution, the Report will be tabled in the House of Assembly at its next sitting on 28th November, 2011.
The Prime Minister advises that the Report recommends that the number of Constituencies in The Bahamas be reduced from 41 to 38. The recommended distribution of constituencies is: 23 in New Providence; 5 in Grand Bahama and Bimini and 10 in the Family Islands.
