Would-Be Car Thief Caught and Beaten

A vehicle robbery gone awry has left one would-be thief hospitalized after he was caught in the act early Monday morning.

According to police, a male resident of Pioneer’s Way caught the suspect breaking into his vehicle – a grey Nissan Sunny – that was parked at the front of his home sometime around 4:20 a.m. on October 14.

The vehicle owner approached the 37-year-old suspect and a physical confrontation ensued.

The suspect, who was unsuccessful in stealing the vehicle, is now hospitalized after sustaining injuries during the confrontation.

According to police, the 37-year-old man was arrested by police officers after which he was taken to the Rand Memorial Hospital to receive medical attention.

The suspect is listed in stable condition and is presently under police guard.

Police on the island are continuing investigation into the early morning attempted theft.
