The sentencing of convicted rapist Eric O’Neil Strachan was postponed a third time due to prosecutorial incompetence, or corruption.
This time, the excuse was because a psychiatric report was still lacking. A new hearing has been scheduled for February 22.
Senior Justice Hartman Longley, who presided over the rape trial last September, initially set sentencing for November 11, 2010.
At the hearing, Strachan’s attorney Devard Williams requested a psychiatric evaluation of his client and the judge adjourned sentencing to November 29, 2010.
At the second hearing, prosecutors informed the court that the psychiatric report was still not complete and the matter was adjourned to yesterday.
Strachan was found guilty of raping a 69-year-old woman at Eight Mile Rock last December. He was also found him guilty of two counts of attempted rape and one count of indecent assault.
The victim was staying with a relative in Andros Town, Eight Mile Rock, on December 10, 2010 when the incident occurred.
The woman testified that Strachan dragged her from a living room sofa to his bedroom and raped her.
At trial, Strachan denied raping the victim. He claimed the sex was consensual and that the elderly woman made sexual advances on him.
