CALIFORNIA – Aisha Bowe, a Bahamian-American was recognized in two categories at the recently concluded National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) Aerospace Conference in Los Angeles. She was awarded a 21st Century Trailblazers Award in the category of Aerodynamics and Aviation and Outstanding Technical Contribution for her technical paper entitled “Evaluation of a Fuel Efficient Maneuver for Conflict Resolution”. Miss Bowe’s father is Mr. Glenroy Bowe of Nassau, Bahamas and her grandfather is Mr. Forester Bowe who also resides in Nassau.
The 21st Century Trailblazers in Aerospace Award is particularly notable as it recognizes “entry and mid-career engineers who demonstrate potential as rising stars in the aerospace industry.” There were approximately 30 other technical papers including several NASA submissions. The award panel was chaired by Dr. Edward Tunstel.
During the keynote address by former astronaut Col. Frederick D. Gregory (Ret.), Aisha was encouraged to apply to become an astronaut when the next astronaut application process opens up.
Aisha Bowe is a researcher in the Flight Trajectory Dynamics & Controls Branch of the Aviation Systems Division at NASA Ames Research Center.
Aisha is developing and examining separation assurance algorithms to measure and improve their robustness to common error sources such as aircraft speed and weight. She also investigates methods by which conflict-resolution trajectories can be optimized for fuel burn as an alternative to conventional time-based optimization approaches.
Ms. Bowe is a member of the National Society of Black Engineers and the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics. She holds a B.S.E in Aerospace Engineering and an M.Eng in Space Engineering from the University of Michigan. Awards won at the 2012 NSBE Conference:
1) 21st Century Trailblazers Award in the category of Aerodynamics and Aviation
2) Outstanding Technical Contribution – Awarded for my technical paper entitled “Evaluation of a Fuel Efficient Maneuver for Conflict Resolution”
