It’s been a year since a jury convicted Andre Birbal of having sex with two male students from the Eight Mile Rock High School, but his appeal is still pending.
Birbal, who is appealing his conviction and 35 year sentence, has appeared before the Court of Appeal on three occasions. He filed a notice of intention to appeal the lower court’s judgment on February 15, 2011.
Birbal, who taught art and computer assisted design, taught one of his victims for five years and the other for just six weeks. The victims made police reports about the alleged abuse after they graduated from the school.
