The Governor General’s Youth Award (GGYA) program is making history as more than 300 participants on Grand Bahama are set to receive Bronze Awards in June, a statement from the program said.
“That’s the largest number of Bronze Award recipients that we have on record,” Marla Turnquest, GGYA office manager said.
In total, more than 400 young people participating in the GGYA service program on Grand Bahama are expected to receive awards after completing a qualifying exhibition later in the year.
“We’re expecting over 300 participants to receive their Bronze Award and another 100 to receive their Silver Award during the ceremony in June,” Turnquest said.
The program that is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year has undergone a name change since it first began when it was called the Duke of Edinburgh Award.
The program is currently entrenched in 11 schools on the island and is geared towards youth between the ages of 14 to 25.
