The Free National Movement (FNM) on Grand Bahama celebrated the birthday of Sir Cecil Wallace-Whitfield who founded the party in 1971 at the Sir Cecil Wallace-Whitfield Headquarters yesterday.
The party announced a church service at Pro-Cathedral Christ the King on Sunday March 25, at 10:00 a.m. where his wife Lady Naomi Wallace-Whitfield, along with family and the FNM will celebrate Sir Cecil’s legacy.
Senator David Thompson said Sir Cecil was a man with a profound love for God, his family and his country, noting that the party was issuing an invitation for all Bahamians to attend the service or at least remember Sir Cecil in prayer.
“He is the founder of the modern democracy of The Bahamas having established the two party system constitutionally in our country,” he said.
Thompson said a hallmark of Sir Cecil’s legacy was his commitment to promoting education and being the champion of labor for ordinary Bahamians.
Former FNM Member of Parliament, Maurice Moore remembering his time with Sir Cecil as The Bahamas transitioned from a one party state to a two party state said that it was a difficult time.
