The Auditor General’s Office is investigating the Ministry of Housing’s Freeport division after concerns were raised over a discrepancy with a payment to a contractor.
“There are some concerns with the Grand Bahama office which are being investigated and we will take whatever action is deemed necessary,” said Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Housing Loraine Armbrister yesterday.
However, she was tight-lipped on the circumstances that prompted the probe. “During routine work with respect to the department some concerns came about,” was all she would say.
However, a well-placed source within the Ministry of Housing said the auditor general was called in after records within the Freeport division showed a duplication of payments to one contractor.
Roger Forbes, a senior officer at the Auditor General’s Office, confirmed that a review into the concerns was underway.
