Bishop Earl Randolph Fraser was returned to prison to await a Court of Appeal decision in his sex case.
Fraser, the pastor of Pilgrim Baptist Church, has appealed a conviction of having sex with a teenage congregant who had been sent to him for counseling.
After hearing three days of arguments, the Court has reserved its decision to a date to be announced.
Prosecutors alleged that Fraser began a sexual relationship with the 16-year-old under the guise of counseling. The girl alleged that the couplings took place on the floor of Fraser’s office at the church and at his marital home during the period July 2005 to February 2006.
Fraser’s lawyer, Jairam Mangra, has argued that the trial magistrate did not properly consider the defense’s case and the virtual complainant was not a credible witness.
