PROVIDENCIALES, Turks and Caicos Islands — The Turks and Caicos Islands attorney general, Huw Shepheard, has threatened to bring legal proceedings against those responsible for disclosing to the media documents claimed to be from the files of the special investigation and prosecution team (SIPT).
Two witness statements were apparently leaked in mysterious circumstances, reminiscent of the infamous Watergate break-in of the 1970s in Washington, and copies have been widely circulated among the Turks and Caicos Islands public at large.
Effectively confirming that the documents in question are in fact genuine, Shepheard said, “The statements recently disclosed to the media are clearly part of the SIPT’s ongoing criminal investigation, with a view to their being use d as evidence in legal proceedings.”
