Grand Bahama Police Enforce Rules of The Road

A number of bikers were left grounded this holiday weekend after traffic police in Grand Bahama confiscated several motorcycles from unsuspecting riders.

Officers from the Traffic Division launched “Operation Trail Mix” on Sunday which was aimed at enforcing the rules of the road.

Police say it was a message of no tolerance for prolific traffic offenders, particularly those on motorcycles.

The exercise was carried out between 6:30 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. and netted eight trail bikes.

The bikes were confiscated in the Williams’ Town area after they were suspected of being stolen, according to police.

Eight males between the ages of 18 and 30 years old, who identified themselves as the riders, are assisting the police.

Abaco police carried out a similar exercise called “Operation Peace on the Streets” between 6:00 p.m. Saturday, August 4 and 6:00 a.m. Monday, August.

The combined police effort resulted in two motorcycles being taken off the streets on that northern island.

According to police, a Honda trail motorbike and a Yamaha four-wheeler was confiscated for breach of the Road Traffic Act.

Two males, a 15 and 24 year old, are said to be assisting police.

Investigations into these matters are continuing.

In the meantime, police in Grand Bahama are continuing their investigations into an armed robbery at China Temple last weekend.

Police say they were called to the Freeport International Bazaar around 9:35 p.m. where employees at that restaurant were held up and robbed.

The owner and operator of the eatery reported that two masked men, dressed in dark clothing with one brandishing a handgun, entered the establishment and demanded cash.

The men reportedly robbed the employees of cash before making good their escape.

The police is asking anyone with information regarding the incident to call 350-3107/8, 352-9774/5 or 911.
