Four people in the Intensive Care Unit have now been infected with the potentially deadly bacterial infection that Princess Margaret Hospital (PMH) administration previously stated had been contained in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
Sources requested anonymity but claimed that top PMH officials were aware that the bacterium Acinetobacter Baumannii had spread beyond the NICU. The cause of the outbreak of the infection has not been determined.
PMH did not find it necessary to inform the public of the outbreak until after two babies have died from exposure to the bacterium and six others tested positive.
