Thursday, November 1 from 6-9pm, Doongalik Studios will host the Book Launch of Dr Davidson Hepburn’s first novel “The Short Happy Life of Alexander Mann” Dr Hepburn is a former diplomat who served as Ambassador of The Bahamas to the United Nations from 1978-1988. He has held a four-year tenured post as a member of the Executive Board of UNESCO and was elected President of the 35th Session of the General Conference of UNESCO in September 2009 and has recently returned to The Bahamas from this appointment.

Discussing his approach to the writing of his first novel Dr Davidson stated, “This novel has been in the making for many years and consequently has gone through many revisions.  However, the basic theme did not change in the process. I wanted to put my imagination to use in developing a fictional character who was determined to defy the social mores and to fight for a cause.

“The novel is a tragi-romantic story of a man who wanted to conduct an experiment in order to find unconditional love.  In the process he encounters a number of challenges.

The characters are intentionally under developed. In this regard the reader is advised to observe the symbolisms involved in the makeup of the characters. Each one tells a unique story about the protagonist whom some persons may find callous. Alexander Mann definitely is not flawless, but underneath he displays a sensitive and endearing spirit.  He has a strong will and does not allow anyone or anything to deter him from accomplishing his goal.”

Along with meeting the author, patrons will be treated to a special reading by Dr Hepburn and can get their books autographed on site. Pam Burnside, Manager of Doongalik, expressed her delight on launching this book at the Gallery. “We are always happy to promote artistic endeavours of any form. Creativity in The Bahamas is thriving and we look forward to an exciting evening of enlightment, entertainment and comraderie.”
