Cargo Ship Leaked Over 1,000 Gallons Of Oil

NASSAU, Bahamas — A damaged cargo ship left behind an oil spill of more than 1,000 gallons (3,785 liters). The ship is a Panamanian-flagged vessel named Eugenia – owned by Swiss-based Mediterranean Shipping Co.

Ray Darville, owner of Overseas Marine Group Ltd. expressed displeasure at the Bahamas government’s handling of the environmental issue. He says government officials at Freeport Harbor in Grand Bahama island contracted Bahamas Oil Refining Co. to tend to the spill.

The ship was hauled back into harbor by Darville’s crews and it is no longer leaking oil.
