A male detainee at the Carmichael Road Detention Center died on Sunday, though it is unclear how, Director of Immigration Jack Thompson reported yesterday.
In a short statement, Thompson said the Department of Immigration is working closely with police and health officials to establish a cause of death.
Thompson said foul play was not suspected.
Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration Fred Mitchell said the man’s nationality was unclear yesterday, though he explained that the man was born in Guyana but presented a Trinidadian passport when he entered The Bahamas.
Mitchell said the man’s identity was being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
