Harbour Island Residents Arrested For Bad Behavior

The mother of four sons, who were arrested for allegedly disturbing the peace, throwing missiles and disorderly behavior on New Year’s Day, claimed she and other members of her family were assaulted by police officers during the arrests.

Colton Grant, 24; Lakeem Grant, 25; Dorrell Higgs, 27; Jamal Brown, 23, and Jade Lightbourne, 19, were taken into police custody after an altercation involving police at a Harbour Island nightclub earlier that morning.

Others were also arrested, police confirmed.

Assistant Superintendent Christopher Wright, officer in charge of the Eleuthera district, said seven men and four women were arrested.

Wright said police responded to complaints of a disturbance at the club and went there to shut it down in the interest of public safety and because the establishment was open well beyond its licensed opening hours.

Shammie Grant, 52, Lightbourne’s aunt and the mother of the four brothers, said she met at least four officers at her home around 5 a.m. on New Year’s Day.

She told The Nassau Guardian the officer demanded to search the house, and alleged that when she refused one of the officers grabbed her and tried to push her out of the way.
