Re: Fire at Marshall Road Derelict Vehicle Site

I would like to inform the general public that the government of The Bahamas made the decision last year to relocate the derelict vehicle site from its current location on Marshall Road.

The government is aware of a fire at the site and the concern of smoke emanating from the site which is being addressed. We also understand that the existence of the site has been a vexing problem for some twenty odd years to the residents of Misty Gardens, Marshall Road and the surrounding areas inclusive of the Anatol Rodgers High school. This is why we moved quickly to bring resolution to this issue. At present we are working along with the Department of Lands and Survey to identify an appropriate plot of land on which the site can be relocated. As soon as this can be done the site will be moved.

The site cannot be shut down in the interim because of the work being done by my ministry in conjunction with the Urban Renewal Programme to clean up these mostly abandoned vehicles from areas of the island.

The public can rest assured that this problem is being dealt with as quickly as possible by this administration, in an effort to ensure that the residents of the area and the students and teachers of Anatol Rodgers can see a long overdue end to this problem.
