The National Executive Committee of The Scout Association of The Bahamas declared the Associations 100th Anniversary Celebration of Scouting shall be celebrated from January 2013 throughout the year and to continue to March 2014, the year of Scouting’s 100th Anniversary.
The 100th Anniversary will be an opportunity to provide a platform for the development of Scouting in The Bahamas as well as celebrate the past 100 years.
2013 will mark 100th Years of Scouting. Scouting reached The Bahamas late in 1912 when Miss Evelyn Lobb who was a member of staff at Government House and was instrumental in forming the first Scout Troop. In 1913 the Bahamas received its charter from United Kingdom on 19th March, and was named The Bahamas Branch Boy Scout’s Association. On the 1st August, 1974 the Scout Association become 107th member of The World Scout Movement and was named The Scout Association of The Bahamas.
TO DEMONSTRATE THE UNITY OF WORLD SCOUTING
The Centenary will prove our Scouts with an opportunity to demonstrate the unity of World Scouting and to work in partnership with Scouts from other countries, showing solidarity, learning from each other and sharing of resources.
TO IMPROVE AND PROMOTE THE QUALITY OF SCOUTING
The Centenary will be used by our Association to develop our national programs and to improve and promote the quality of scouting, to support the planning and implementation of the “Messengers of Peace” a World Scout Program.TO PROMOTE PEACE
Peace was the central them of Scouting’s Centenary and millions of Scouts rose to the challenge of the “Gifts for Peace”. Scouts mobilized on a massive scale to learn about issues facing their communities and to take action to make a difference.
TO DEMONSTRATE THE UNIQUE VALUE OF SOUTING
The Association will use the opportunity of the Centenary to strengthen the profile of Scouting in The Bahamas through promotional campaigns, increased interaction with local media and training development of young people to interact with local communities throughout the celebrations.
TO DEMONSTRATE A COMMITMENT TO NATURE AND ENVIRONMENT
The centenary will provide an opportunity for our members to demonstrate their commitment to nature and the environment by taking part in activities and initiatives with an environment focus.
TO SHOW CONCERN FOR ALL COMMUNITIES
The Association has the courage and conviction to reach out to young people in especially difficult circumstances and to work in communities in crisis. This is not easy, but we can make a difference by offering opportunities, to tackle difficult issues such as supporting people with HIV/AIDS, Re-Education, and assisting communities after Natural disasters.
