Alarming Number Of Armed Robberies

Six armed robberies were reported within a 24-hour period over the Easter weekend and  weekend and another round of armed robberies occurred this past weekend. An alarming and growing trend.

In several cases the armed robberies took place as people arrived at their homes and were accosted. Police are asking people to be more aware.

Commissioner of Police Ellison Greenslade said the trend of armed robberies occurring since the beginning of the year has been “very disconcerting”.

“It’s very disconcerting the number of armed robberies that we’ve been having over time, since the start of the year,” Mr. Greenslade said. “Actually, we’ve seen the same thing, last year, and I’ve commented before, as I comment again, now – far too many armed robberies are occurring.

“Far too many unemployed, young adults – predominantly males – in this community are prepared to rob people for their hard earned property and they, themselves are not prepared to work. We have deployed officers to continue to seek these people out. We’ve had some successes.”

Police said they arrested a 29-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman for possession of an unlicensed shotgun, and two males, 22 and 19, for possession of a handgun and ammunition.
