The officer police who said he was shot in the head was actually hit with a blunt object during an attack at Potter’s Cay Dock, police reported over the weekend.
Constable Philippian Brown regained consciousness on Friday, April 12, 2013 and was able to provide police with some details surrounding his attack, according to Superintendent Paul Rolle, officer in charge of the Central Detective Unit (CDU).
Rolle said Brown told officers he was at Potter’s Cay Dock attempting to arrest someone when he was attacked by a group of people.
“He was able to get away from the group and was able to drive himself to Doctors Hospital,” Rolle said on Saturday.
Police initially thought Brown had been shot because he pulled up to the hospital just before midnight covered in blood saying he thought he was shot.
Brown is attached to the Carmichael Road Police Station.
It is still unclear how many people attacked the officer or how many men were being arrested.
Rolle said the investigations are in the early stages.
The same night Brown was attacked, Superintendent Clayton Fernander was shot during what police think was a botched armed robbery.
Rolle said police wrapped up that investigation yesterday. Charges are expected to be filed against two suspects early this week.
Fernander was shot multiple times when he arrived at his residence on St. Vincent Road shortly before 10 p.m., police said.
Police said two masked men opened fire on Fernander.
Police arrested a 23-year-old man shortly after 4 p.m. on Thursday in the Faith Gardens area.
The second suspect, a 21-year-old man, was arrested in Centerville on Friday night.
“Right now we have all suspects who we believe were involved in this matter in custody,” Rolle told reporters.
Fernander, who heads the Southeastern Division, was airlifted to Florida for treatment on Friday. Police said he is “progressing well”.
