Queen’s College Thanks Retiring Teacher

“The old order changeth giving place to new”

Queen’s College

It is with a profound sense of gratitude that this letter comes, signalling the end of a chapter for one of our long-serving members of staff.

Mr. Julian Foulkes, a multi-talented individual has served Queen’s College for 32 years in many and varied capacities. Presently he is a master teacher in Psychology in the Advanced Placement programme and is also a teacher of English Language and Literature. However, if we were to look back through the avenue of years, we would see a man who involved himself in the life of Queen’s College at every level.

We saw him forming the Staff/Student choir which put on notable programmes at Christmas for many years, which bore heavenly names such as “Sounds Angelic” and “Sounds Glorious”.

We saw him mounting a special summer programme called “The Thinkers Group”, for certain students in Primary school as they transitioned into High School. We saw him taking part in High School dramatic productions perhaps most notably as Fagin in “Oliver Twist.”.

We saw him each year coordinating the Graduation and Celebration of Excellence ceremonies. We saw him as a teacher who formed a special bond with his students, especially those who, as they grew older, understood his sense of humour, and appreciated his jokes, and who saw him as a mentor and friend.

Time has moved on and Mr. Foulkes is about to retire after many years of stellar service, and it is only fitting that we honour and thank him in a special and significant way. We are asking, therefore, for a contribution of at least $5.00 from each member of our school family to enable us to give him a retirement gift which is truly memorable. This is just a small way of showing appreciation to a person who has given so much to our school and wider community.

Once a student makes a contribution, he/she will be asked to write greetings on the Home Room card that will later be presented to Mr. Foulkes. Adults making a contribution may use one of the thank you cards that will be available in the High School Office.

A formal dinner in his honour will be held on Friday, 14th June, 2013 at 6:00 p.m. at Superclub Breezes Hotel on Cable Beach. We invite staff, parents, students and alumni to attend. Tickets are available from the High School Office and from Mrs. Jannelle Albury at the Development Office. Cost is $50.00

Please return the tear-off portion of this letter with your contribution towards the gift to the High school office by Friday, 31st May, 2013. We thank you for your participation.

Shawn M. Turnquest Vice Principal,
Head of Queen’s College High School
