A fired policeman was granted bail after prosecutors withdrew their objection to his release.
Acting Chief Magistrate Joyann Ferguson-Pratt deferred a bail hearing for ex-Constable 2944 Demetrius Hepburn last week after prosecutors claimed he could compromise pending investigations if released.
Hepburn is accused of soliciting a $300 bribe from Antoine Sands on August 8 to prevent him from carrying out his duties as a policeman.
Hepburn has denied the allegation.
Hepburn, 27, worked as a policeman for nine years. His most recent posting was at the East Street Police Station.
However, the commissioner of police dismissed him from the force shortly before he appeared in court on the extortion charge on August 22.
Ferguson-Pratt set bail at $8,000 with two sureties on the condition that he reports to the Grove Police Station on Tuesdays and Fridays before 6 p.m.
She also forbade him from interfering with the witnesses in the case.
Hepburn is represented by Roger Gomez Jr. Inspector Clifford Daxon is the prosecutor.
