Some called it a year of challenges. Dana Pinder called it a year of opportunities. Winner of the MCR President’s Award, the go-getter from Mario Carey Realty said it was all about recognizing that dreams of home ownership don’t fade, they just take more dedication to transform to reality when times are tough.
“It’s all about the do’s and don’ts,” she said. “The do is do believe that you can make it work. The don’t is don’t even think for a second that you won’t succeed.”
Pinder’s positive attitude combined with her concentration on high end properties, including The Reef on Paradise Island where she sold 15 condominiums ranging in price from $695,000 to nearly $7 million, catapulted her to top performer in the growing real estate firm that added nine staff members in 2013.
The Diamond Award for top rental performance went to Lamond Davis while Antoine Adderley walked away with the Blockbuster Award for the highest volume of transactions and Sheldon Pitt earned the Sixth Man Guard Award for team player and company advocate.
“The Six Man Guard Award is a particularly interesting one,” said Mario Carey, who founded his own firm in 2008 after years of being called the industry’s super salesman. “It’s the equivalent of the most valuable player award and it went to Sheldon because whenever anyone has a question, problem or dilemma, nine times out of 10 they’ll turn to Sheldon. He’s like everybody’s big brother and that compassion and ability to relate to people also makes him a leading sales agent.
For Antoine, it’s quick action that speaks volumes, says Carey.
“Antoine is like a magician,” he said. “Most of his sales have a turnaround time of under 60 days. In one recent transaction, he took a listing on a Monday and sold the home by Friday.”
For rental specialist Lamond Davis, it’s all about adjusting to market fluctuations.
“The great thing about being an estate agent is the variety of services so if there is a lull in one area, it can positively impact another,” Davis said. “When the economic downturn impacted home buying, the rental market enjoyed a boost. Bahamians were suddenly taking advantage of long term leaseholds due to economic uncertainty and more stringent bank requirements.”
“Each one of these agents has his or her own individual personality and style but what they have in common is dedication, market knowledge and attention to detail,” said Carey, “It was a pleasure to be able to recognize and congratulate Dana, Sheldon, Lamond and Antoine, but also to use their successes to inspire everyone on the team. Success is contagious and there’s nothing like a staff party and a casual awards ceremony to spread it.” The event was held in Ocean Club Estates. MCR is headquartered in Nassau in an historic building on Bay Street.
