While attending the opening of Conch N’ Kalik at Pompey Square, deputy director general in the Ministry of Tourism Ellison “Tommy” Thompson, said new business operations are breathing new life into a city where visitors have been looking for more entertainment options.
“The great thing is that Pompey Square was opened a few months ago,” he said. “There have been a lot of new restaurants and attractions opening up on Bay Street. This just adds to the fun and excitement being generated on Bay Street. Pompey Square is quickly becoming one of those hangout places and it is really good how we have gotten more restaurants and attractions here.”
Mr. Thompson said the Ministry of Tourism is working with the Downtown Nassau Partnership (DNP) to form an association of downtown Nassau restaurants and clubs. Once established, the association’s work will make Nassau even more vibrant.
“So that is part of the plan they are working on in order to rejuvenate Bay Street to get more life, especially after hours,” Mr. Thompson said. “So there will be more for the visitors to do downtown. They are making a start and it is coming on very nicely.”
