Forget 2017 — we the Bahamian people don’t want to wait out another 4 years of damage to our economy and our livelihoods. We don’t want 4 more years of tax hikes, corruption, lies, incompetence and damage to our country’s name.
Unemployment, higher taxes, corruption & special interests are making it almost impossible for the small man to make it. Cost of living is up. Taxes are up. Crime is up. Fear and frustration is up. Victimisation is up. Confusion and chaos are up – and our hopes are down.
FORGET 2017 – FOUR MORE YEARS IS TOO LONG TO RISK.
FACT – THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A SET FIVE-YEAR TERM IN THE BAHAMAS.
This is not the United States – we do not have set terms, only a maximum 5-year period a government can rule, but no minimum period.
Meaning, the Prime Minister can call an election today and then another one six months from now if he so chooses.
That is the system we have. The Constitution (our Supreme Law) says the government can dissolve AT ANY TIME BEFORE FIVE YEARS.
Governments in The Bahamas stay in for a full five years because THEY CHOOSE TO, NOT BECAUSE THEY HAVE TO constitutionally.
So if at some point the people ever want early elections they certainly can demand it, because this is a democracy. In a democracy the people are the boss, not the government.
