One of the largest poker festivals in the world, the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure, just got even bigger. On Tuesday, PokerStars announced that the 2014 PCA will return to the Atlantis Resort in the Bahamas and consist of 39 events in January. The most exciting news pertained to the $10,300 Main Event, which will boast a $10 million guarantee for the first time ever.
Returning once again this year to flank the Main Event as the two other marquee events are the $100,000 Super High Roller and the $25,500 High Roller.
The series is planned to take place January 5-13.
The PCA Main Event has eclipsed a $10 million prize pool four times — 2009, 2010, 2011, and 2012 — since its inception in 2004. Last year, the Main Event attracted a field of 987 players and created a prize pool of just under $9.6 million.
“This is the first time we’ve put a guarantee on the Main Event, and we’re hoping the $10 million purse will help smash last year’s field of 987 players,” said David Carrion, Director of Live Operations for the PCA and Latin America. “But it wasn’t just about the Main Event in 2013 — the festival generated more than 6,000 total entries and more than $28 million in prize pools across all events, with over 200 runners in the $25,000 High Roller. With even more ways to win a PCA package this year in online and live qualifiers, we’re predicting the 2014 PCA to be one of the biggest and most accessible ever.”
The $100,000 Super High Roller will kick off the festival on January 5, the $10,300 Main Event will begin on January 7, and the $25,500 High Roller will begin on January 11.
The complete 2014 PCA schedule can be found on the PCA website, and once again PokerNews will be on hand to provide coverage of the Main Event, High Roller, and Super High Roller.
