Seeking private management, the Ministry of Transport and Aviation invited qualified Bahamian companies to present bids for the management, development and operation of the Marsh Harbour Airport in Abaco.
The bid was announced four months ago and three companies have responded.
Deputy Prime Minister Philip “Brave” Davis said this is a step towards ensuring that all Family Island airports become self sufficient.
“This would reduce the strain on the public purse and simultaneously, generate a new revenue stream for the government,” Davis said, pointing to what he called an “unsustainable” current model.
The airport is currently in the midst of a major expansion project.
