There are many people in our lives who go unrecognized for all that they have done and continue to do to make life better for others. More often than not, these persons don’t ask for anything in return; they simply desire to make life easier for others and our society a better place to live. Such persons step outside of their work environments to influence the education, health, the economy and social well being of others.
This Christmas, as you plan to meet with family and friends, the Heart Ball Committee encourages you to celebrate those special people in our life. In fact, the public is being encouraged to submit nominations for the Lady Sassoon Golden Heart Award.
On Saturday February 15th, 2014, The Heart Ball Committee will host the 50th Annual Heart Ball. Under the patronage of His Excellency Sir Arthur Foulkes and Joan Lady Foulkes, and The Right Honourable Perry Gladstone Christie and Mrs. Bernadette Christie, the 2013 / 2014 Heart Ball Committee will host the 50th Annual Heart Ball. The theme for this Ball is, “Celebrating the Golden Anniversary of a Vision…Championing the Cause of Children.
Guests can look forward to an evening filled with elegance, fine food, fun, dancing and prizes. There will be live band and orchestral performances followed by special music by Gary “Super” Johnson.
All persons attending the Ball will have an opportunity to leave with a prize; there will be table prizes, an in-house raffle and a special auction. Featured items include: a set of round trip ticket to London, kindly donated by British Airways, jewelry from Cartier and Bulgari provided by John Bull, and much, much more.
One of the highlights of the evening is the presentation of the Lady Sassoon Golden Heart Award. Most importantly, this event is the major fundraiser that benefits The Sir Victor Sassoon (Bahamas) Heart Foundation, helping to repair the hearts of children.
Since 1968, the Lady Sassoon Golden Heart has been presented at the Annual Heart Ball. The award was initiated by The Heart Foundation to applaud and give recognition to individuals who have selflessly given of themselves to promote human welfare and dignity, thus making life better for their fellow men.
Typically, this work would be outside of one’s regular paid work. Many persons have won the award including: Ms. Marjorie Davis, Camille Lady Barnett, Mr. Lowell Mortimer, Ms. Mary Profilo, Dr. Donald Gerace, Captain Durward Knowles and many more.
Most recently, Mrs. Sheila Culmer, a disability activist, won the 2012 Lady Sassoon Golden Heart Award. She, along with her predecessors, was chosen from a pool of worthy candidates, to be the winners of this award. Mrs. Culmer lives by the philosophy, “Never look down at anyone unless you are stooping down to pick them up”. She encourages others to do the same.
As the year 2014 fast approaches, interested persons are invited to submit a nomination, to be accompanied by a letter or statement explaining why the person recommended should receive the award. Nominations are to be submitted to:
