Where do we go from here…
The lawlessness, criminality and violence continues unabated.
We’ve prayed in our homes, prayed in churches, even had a mass prayer rally. We’ve gotten rid of the prior political leaders and placed new ones at the helm who supposedly had a plan.
We’ve talked on the radio shows, debated in the House of Assembly, held Town Hall meetings and Crime Forums.
But still the lawlessness, criminality and violence continues unabated.
Could it be that these young brothers that we demonize are simply products of a broken system?
Could that system be made up of broken citizens, broken parents, broken politicians, a broken educational system, a broken judicial system and most of all… A broken way of thinking?
Could it be that after we finish “hanging this set” there’s another generation already in the making (products of a broken system) readying themselves to take their rightful place as the flag bearers for all that’s bad and unholy in our country?
Could it be that the KEY ingredient to resolving our crime challenge DOES NOT lie with the Commissioner of Police, the Attorney General or the Minister of National Security?
Is it possible that over the last 25 years we have collectively (as an entire country) looked in all the wrong places for solutions?
Our crime epidemic WILL NOT improve by any significant amount by labelling, incarcerating or hanging a few “bad boys”… Remember the murder count only represents ONE category of a long list of crimes that take place in large numbers every day in this country.
We need to take our heads out of the sand, stop the blaming and take a good hard look at the MAN IN THE MIRROR if we are in anyway serious about tackling the lawlessness, criminality and violence that is now affecting the way we live our lives.
