The Alliance Française des Bahamas in the cadre of its inter-cultural events and programmes is travelling to France in June with a small group of Bahamians interested in French language and cultural immersion for personal or Professional development.
Upon arrival in Lyon, they will travel to Fontaine via Grenoble and take up residence at the Château de la Rochette, a 15th century castle which has been renovated to accomodate tasteful appartments that marry modern comforts and the chateau’s style.
Although they will be residing in a château, participants will not be living “la vie de château” as they are expected to grocery shop, take public transportation, walk and live like ordinary mortals in the city….all in French.
A number of activites and events have also been organised to allow participants to enjoy the life and language of the Region to the fullest including an excursion to the Beaujolais wine region to taste the local specialties and wines and visit sites of historical and cultural importance.
Participants will visit museums and exhibitions, participate in certain activities with the Alliance Française de Grenoble, take French cooking lessons and adventure into the city on a “treasure hunt”.
Alliance Director, Madame Italia Watkins-Jan has arranged for the Bahamian group to pay a courtesy call on the city’s representative for International Affairs, Madame Lobna Rannou. The group will present a small souvenir of The Bahamas to Mme Rannou for the Mairie of Fontaine.
The Alliance will keep the Bahamian public and its members informed of the group’s adventures by posting regularly on the its website and Facebook page.
Participants include Anthony and Larissa Darville, Rose Josue, Matthew William, Alexander Albury, Lateisha Lewis and Jessica Johnson.
We would like to thank all those who made it possible for certain persons to attend to develop their skills, including the Lyford Cay Club and the Royal Bahamas Police Force.
We would also like to encourage the corporate world and persons who may be willing to assist more students in the future to participate in these expériences as 5 young persons were unable to attend this time due to a lack of funding.
If you would like to become a member of the Alliance Française, become a sponsor, donate to a specific activity or assist a young Bahamian in achieving his/her goals to learn a foreign language (French), please visit us online at www.afbahamas.org.
Without your support and interest, the Alliance will no longer exist.
