Bahamian Project Announces New Advisory Board

The Bahamian Project is pleased to announce the formation of an Advisory Board to help steer and manage the ongoing initiative.

The Bahamian Project was created by Duke and Lisa Wells in 2012 in collaboration with Popopstudios and the National Art Gallery of The Bahamas. The community inspired art/history/culture project is capturing the character and preserving the legacy of those people whose lives have helped shape the heart and soul of our nation.

“The Advisory Board will provide input, wisdom and creativity for the growth and development of the Project,” said Duke Wells, Founder, Chairman and Creative Director of the Bahamian Project.

Initial members of the Advisory Board include broadcast journalist Anthony Newbold, photographers Rosemary Clarice Hanna, Guilden Gilbert and Rashad Penn, artist Ana-Lisa Wells and photographer Duke Wells.

Anthony Newbold is an award-winning broadcast journalist, President of The Bahamas Press Club and Executive Board member of the ACP Press Club Federation. As host of the long running television show “Legends”, Mr Newbold has a keen understanding of the people who helped shape the heart and soul of The Bahamas.

Rosemary Clarice Hanna is a retired banker, author, documentary filmmaker, musician, gardener and photographer whose knowledge of the general history of The Bahamas and Nassau’s Over-The-Hill community provides valuable insight into the history and culture of The Bahamas.

Guilden M. Gilbert, Jr. was born and raised in Bermuda and has been passionately involved with photography for the past 36 years. Guilden has been shooting for the Bahamian Project for the past 4 years and recently taught an Introduction to Photography Course through Queen’s College Continuing Education Department.

Rashad Penn is a Bahamian photographic artist whose fine art images have traveled around the world. His photographic craftsmanship, coupled with his discipline from martial arts training and intimacy with the outdoors, gives him a unique ability to capture the beauty of The Bahamas and document the Bahamian lifestyle. Rashad was also involved in the Photography Course at Queen’s College.

Ana-Lisa Wells was born and raised in Nassau, Bahamas. After receiving a degree in photography in the United States, she worked as an advertising photographer and studio manager before returning to The Bahamas. She now creates fine art photography and mixed media artwork which has been exhibited in galleries in The Bahamas and the U.S.

Duke Wells enjoyed a successful career as an advertising photographer in the United States before moving to The Bahamas. Duke has won numerous awards for his commercial work which has been published internationally. His fine art photography has been exhibited in galleries in both the U.S. and The Bahamas.

The people selected for the Advisory Board were selected because of their character, personal skills, interest in the Project and leadership abilities – as individuals, not as a representatives of any company or organization.

Over the past four years, the Bahamian Project has photographed over 100 Bahamians whose beauty is more than skin deep, including a number of social and cultural icons, as well as scores of unique individuals whose lives reflect the essence of Bahamian society.

There are so many others yet to include.  2017 promises to be an exciting new year for the Bahamian Project.
