Exuma’s historic Peace and Plenty hotel was recently acquired by U.S.-based real estate development company SMS Lodging, under a new partnership with Exuma real estate investors Steve and Patrick Harrington and Bahamian entrepreneur Burton Rodgers.
The sale will allow SMS Lodging to manage all aspects of operations, including sales, marketing and reservations.
As a result of the acquisition, approximately 20 employees working directly with the hotel will be made redundant and start a new interview process on Wednesday.
The new owners are expected to “pay homage to the property’s history, while simultaneously revitalizing the hotel with a noticeable top-to-bottom refresh, including the addition of all the modern conveniences that today’s travelers have come to expect,” the statement noted.
