Forecasters, emergency managers and Bahamas residents can breathe just a bit easier in the wake of Tropical Storm Emily’s encounter with the island of Hispaniola. Citing a lack of closed circulation, the National Hurricane Center has downgraded what was Tropical Storm Emily to a trough of low pressure.
There are still several cautionary notes in the advisory posted by forecaster Lexion Avila. For one thing, the remnants of Emily is still producing heavy rain over Hispaniola, which contains the Dominican Republic and the impoverished nation of Haiti. That heavy rain could spread to parts of Cuba and the Bahamas.
