Suspicious Tanker May Be Oil Spill Culprit

The past weekend was an eventful one for the residents in Pinder’s Point.

On Friday and Saturday, there were the persistent rains from Tropical Depression Emily, which flooded many parts of the island. On Sunday, residents discovered what was believed to be oil in waters near the beach and then there was the report of suspicious boats miles away from the harbour. According to sources, two tankers were lingering miles away from the shoreline, side-by-side, extremely close together. It was reported that the boats were in that position for much of Saturday and Sunday.

The police were called on the scene and apparently the sight of law enforcement officers on land, forced those aboard the tankers to start their engines and take off.

No doubt, the sight of the boats in their unusual positions caused much ruckus among residents and particularly among executives of BORCO. Sources say that a top executive at BORCO placed a call to Prime Minister Hubert Ingraham about the matter and it is believed that the police, the department of immigration as well as the Customs department have been asked to look into the matter.
