Employees at Viva Wyndham Fortuna Beach were battling uncertainty yesterday as they awaited word of when the hotel property would reopen.
The hotel has been closed since last week when Hurricane Irene passed across the island.
Employees said they heard that damages were sustained during the storm, but when they attempted to get information as to when they can return to work, information was not forthcoming.
The employee said she visited the hotel on Friday only to be turned away with no information, which puts her in a difficult position.
The employee said she and others called the hotel again yesterday several times, but were given no explanations. Instead, she added they were told to call back today.
The employee said hotel staff need to be informed of the situation so they can know how to move forward.
The Freeport News spoke to Lydia Saunders, a local tour operator who said she had received an e-mail from the company informing her of the hotel’s short-term closure.
