The trial of a man accused of having fake vehicle inspection certificates in his possession began Tuesday in a Freeport magistrates court.
The 25-year-old Freeport man is charged with possession of forged documents as it is alleged that back in November 2008, he intended to deceive and had in his possession certain forged documents knowing they were not genuine.
Police Corporal Lamont Davis, who is attached to the K-9 Unit, told the court that on the day in question, he was summoned to the Grand Bahama International Airport to assist United States Customs who had someone in their custody.
Munroe was attempting to leave the country.
Cpl. Davis said a number of fake decals were found in Munroe’s baggage during a search.
In total, the court learned, 49 Commonwealth of The Bahamas motor vehicle certificates of inspection and four decals were fake.
Stephanie Rahming testified that she was the assistant controller at the Road Traffic Department back in 2008 when police officers visited her office and presented her with the decals and inspection certificates.
Under cross-examination by Attorney Shurland, she said Munroe told her he was going to a car show in Daytona and was taking the certificates to decorate his stand.
Also when questioned, she said Munroe did not deny that the original inspection certificate was from his mother, he was truthful during the interview and he did not give her the impression that he was trying to pull the wool over her head.
Following her testimony, the matter was adjourned to March 27, 2012.
