Nassau, The Bahamas– Fashion enthusiasts and art lovers anticipate the official launch of the “black-carpet event”, Fash|Art on Saturday 5th November, 2011, hosted at Doongalik Studios, Village Road, beginning at 6:30pm.
While in the capacity of Operations Manager of Mode Iles Ltd, producers of the renowned “Islands of the World Fashion Week”, Project Manager and fashion enthusiast Kedar Clarke began conceptualizing an event to promote emerging, creative talents in the areas of fashion & art, locally. Clarke soon after partnered with producers of the popular online publication Stylezine Magazine, Nikolas Barnes; Editor In Chief & Scharad Lightbourne; Creative Director, to further develop the concept of Fash|Art; a competition based platform providing fashion designers and visual artists the opportunity to showcase, compete and expand their businesses objectives.
“In traveling to major cities over the past year, I made note of the many opportunities afforded to individuals in fashion & art, compared to those back home. Most people, especially in other island nations, always support their local designers and artist. I want to provide a consistent platform for these creative individuals and for others to see the progress in their talents”, says Clarke.
Event producers are set to transform popular Doongalik Studios into an ultra-swank venue to host the multifaceted showcase. Details of the night include a fashion show, specialty cocktail bars, an art exhibit and a trunk show, in hopes of creating the much-needed exposure for designers and artists. The competition-based event will also allow participants to vie for cash prizes, exclusive retail opportunities & other career-launching incentives
Winners in the categories of fashion and art will be awarded titles of “Harl Taylor Emerging Designer” and the “Jackson Burnside Emerging Artist” awards, respectively. “We are pleased to pay homage to the legacies of men who helped usher Bahamians into a progressively creative future”, says Barnes.
