Amidst ongoing rumors about a potential pullout from its Grand Bahama route, executives of the Celebration Cruise Line (CCL) said that they are committed to the island for the long haul.
The cruise line, which began servicing the destination in March 2010, offers a cruise from Grand Bahama to West Palm Beach every other day.
Charles Kinnear, President of Carnival Cruise Lines told The Freeport News that they value the investment they have made in the island, and do not intend to abandon it.
“Well we know there are a lot of rumors out there about us going to Nassau (and) leaving the area and we just wanted to… let everyone know that we are here to stay,” he said.
“We’ve made a commitment to Grand Bahama Island, we made a commitment to the Bahamian residents and we’re not going anywhere.”
Kinnear said there have been reports that the cruise line would be resuming its Nassau route, which it discontinued prior to beginning the Grand Bahama service.
He explained that the government had requested that the company assist with its Speed Week events.
The cruise line is expected to make three trips from West Palm to New Providence transporting spectators, racecars and participants to the event.
