Member of Parliament for Pineridge, Kwasi Thompson gave his support for the package of crime bills up for debate in the House of Assembly yesterday, noting that crime is a huge problem that is affecting Bahamians regardless of political affiliation or age bracket.
“We have reached a murder count that we have never seen before. This is a different Bahamas and crime has all Bahamians concerned and Bahamians are calling for major changes that will impact crime,” he said.
“They are calling for action. They are calling for stiffer penalties and harsher punishments. They want us to take the gloves off and take the fight to the criminals.”
He noted that the government is attempting to address the country’s accelerating rate of crime by putting in place stiffer penalties for criminals, increasing the number of judges and courts and embarking on anti-crime projects.
