The owner of the Esso service station on Montrose Avenue and Wulff Road was shot in the jaw during an attempted robbery at the establishment yesterday morning, police said.
The 51-year-old man along with a female relative were leaving the service station to make a deposit around 10:30 a.m. when they were approached by two men, according to police.
Police on the scene said the armed men were unsuccessful in acquiring any money, however one of the gunmen shot the owner in the face.
The man drove himself to Princess Margaret Hospital minutes after the incident occurred, police said.
Edlyne Occan, a long-term Esso employee, told The Nassau Guardian inside the service station yesterday that she hid in the employee bathroom after hearing a single gun shot.
She identified the owner as Michael Cartwright.
