Cuba Transfers State-Owned Parlors To Private Sector

Following an experiment in 2009, the Cuban government decided to rent all state-own barber shops and beauty parlors to their workers, making them part of the private or self-employed sector.

The Gaceta Oficial de Cuba published several resolutions regulating the definitive transfer to the private sector of all the personnel working at local barber shops and beauty parlors with up to three chairs.

In all cases the state will continue to own the facilities and will control that these places are used for their aim, while the prices will be set according to offer and demand.

The new measure will get in force next December 1, and it is part of the economic and social changes relevant to the update of the Cuban economic model.
