Tourism Sector Concerned Over Crime

Bahamas tourism sector concerned over rapidly increasing crime levels

Speaking at the opening of the Tourism Security Workshops, Minister of National Security Tommy Turnquest emphasised the importance of “safety and security” at tourist destinations – and admitted that crime is a growing concern among tourism stakeholders.

The workshops are designed to offer specialised security training to help officers better combat crime in tourist areas.

“Lack of safety and security and instances of crime represent a more serious threat to traveling tourism than any other factor,” Mr Turnquest said. “Safety and security are vital to providing quality tourism more than any other economic activity.”

“We can not and we must not be complacent since there is an urgent consensus that crime is a growing concern of our tourism stakeholders.”
