The Christian Council risks losing the respect of the Bahamian people after failing to strip convicted sex offenders of their titles.
The Bahamas Christian Council has finally spoken up about the recent unlawful sex convictions of two prominent church leaders.
In a weak statement released yesterday, the council called on the sex offenders to “make amends” to the families of the victims. They also issued apologies to the victims and the public.
“In recent days, two pastors have been convicted and now serving prison sentences,” the Council said, referring to Bishop Randy Fraser and Elder Albert Whyley.
“This is regrettable and unfortunate,” the Council said, adding that “this ought never to have happened”.
Not exactly a scathing condemnation of the errant church leaders’ actions.
Despite their clams of Chrisitan authority, the council members have apparently forgotten Jesus’ admonition to those who would harm children:
“And whosoever shall offend one of these little ones that believe in me, it is better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and he were cast into the sea.” – Mark 9:42
Both Fraser and Whyley led churches that were affiliated with the Council.
Randy Fraser was found guilty of unlawful sex with a 16-year-old girl, and was sentenced to three years in prison.
Elder Albert Whyley was found guilty of unlawful sex with a nine-year-old girl and was sentenced to life in prison.
