Johnson & Johnson is recalling millions of bottles of slow-dissolving Motrin IB from the shelves today.
McNeil Consumer Healthcare Division of Johnson & Johnson is voluntarily recalling certain lots of Motrin IB, as they have been found to be slow to dissolve when taken, delaying relief for the consumer. Motrin IB 24 count coated tablets; Motrin IB 24 count coated caplets; and Motrin IB 24 + 6 count coated caplets are all included in the recall.
The recalled products were distributed in the United States, Puerto Rico, the Bahamas, Fiji, Belize, St. Lucia and Jamacia.
McNeil is stressing that this is not a consumer-level recall, meaning that consumers do not need to return the product if they have it, and do not need to dispose of it. This recall is not taking place on the basis of adverse events. McNeil indicates that if consumers wish to continue taking the recalled product in accordance with its label, they may do so. However, it is possible that there could be a delay in experiencing relief.
These products are being recalled after product samples showed that some caplets may not dissolve as quickly as intended when nearing their expiration date. Therefore, out of an abundance of caution, McNeil is recalling the included products, as there is a chance they could also be slow to dissolve as they near their expiration dates.
