The steadily increasing number of domestic cases reported in recent years have police concerned and are again asking members of the public to implement conflict resolution techniques and seek help before resorting to violence.
As of Wednesday, according to statistics, this year’s numbers were recorded as the highest in the last three years, peaking at 464 cases.
That startling number is up from the 412 domestic cases reported in 2010 and the 270 cases reported in 2009.
Public Affairs and Communications Officer Assistant Superintendent Loretta Mackey pointed out that when it comes to domestic situations, it not only involves husbands and wives or boyfriends and girlfriends, it can also relate to families in the same household or relatives, generally.
For the most part, she disclosed, the underlying cause of the disputes have a lot to do with trust issues and the methods people choose to try to resolve or confront them.
ASP Mackey said the police continue to advise members of the public, in all cases, to seek counseling from a pastor, trusted friend or trained professional.
